How To Grow Your Organization By Writing A Business Newsletter

By : Michael Green

Here is a simple piece of advice…
Writing a business newsletter can be a great way to promote your organization, club, society, church or business.
Actually, my guess is that you already knew this piece of advice before I gave it to you. And you probably already believe it to be true. But second guess is that although you know this to be true, you are still not in habit of writing a business newsletter for one of the following reasons:
1. To write a business newsletter I will need content
Problem number one will be what to actually fill your business newsletter with. I mean you cannot publish empty pages - right? So finding relevant content will become your first early challenge, but unlike other problems associated with writing a business newsletter - this problem will reoccur with each newsletter issue you produce.

2. What should my newsletter look like?
The design and layout of your newsletter will prove to be one of the most important aspects of your business newsletter. The layout is the thing which will help make your newsletter memorable and readable. Of course content is important, but the look and feel of your newsletter is at least as important.

3. How will I distribute my business newsletter?
Once you have worked out what will be in your newsletter and what your business newsletter will look like, your next problem is working out how to distribute it. Nowadays many newsletters are sent out via email or made available for download on the internet. However, it is still the case that printed newsletters get read more. They are physical and hard to miss, but the trade off is that they are much more expensive to produce. Deciding on your distribution channel is therefore the next problem for ensuring the success of your business newsletter.

4. How can I ensure my newsletter gets regularly published?
This is perhaps the biggest issue of all. Most people are capable of overcoming the problems above, but remembering to schedule your newsletter on a regular basis can be a challenge.

That last point is perhaps the toughest challenge of all and my words of advice are to ensure that you set a publishing schedule in advance and rigidly stick to it.

A useful tip to ensure that your business newsletter gets published regularly is to commit to a newsletter schedule and then make sure you share that time table with others. This can either be people within your organization or better still your readership. Let them know that you will be publishing your business newsletter on - for example - the first day of every month and this will ensure that you have effectively locked yourself into the newsletter scheduling too.
Suddenly it will be much harder to avoid publishing your newsletter and the toughest point above will therefore have been solved.
Good luck with your business newsletter production.
