Here’s a few simple tips for making your time at the flea market still more enjoyable.
The majority flea markets are out-of-doors so you might want some sunscreen, a hat and some shades. A cool drink tucked away in the bottom of your bag is also a great plan. For my part, I take a shopping cart so I can carry my new found goodies around with ease. There are some very inexpensive carts that fold up and easily fit into the trunk of your car.
I also make certain I wear a comfortable pair of walking sneakers so I won’t have to finish my day ahead of time due to tired feet.
Another great tip is to walk to the very end of the vendor’s stalls and work your way back towards the entry. This way you will have the heaviest weight from items you have decided to buy when you are nearest your car. The majority folks start at the entrance of the flea market so if you start at the back you will be likely to see lots of bargain priced odds and ends sooner than too many other people do.
Additionally, because it is perfectly okay to barter with the vendor, I usually take some small change in my purse so I don’t have to drag out large notes during the haggling. Another thing to think of is that you are more apt to get a better price later in the day when the vendor is hoping to increase his total profits for the day. By the end of the day though most vendors are very prepared to lower the prices on the items they have remaining. They absolutely don’t want to have to bundle up any extra stuff at the end of the day than they absolutely have to. The down side to this approach is by going to a flea market first thing in the morning you are likely to be able to take advantage of the selection before everybody else has.
There are various methods to reach a deal on the price of any given item. You can ask the seller what the lowest price is that they will take for a given item. You can also offer to pay a certain price and see if they will take you up on the offer. Alternatively, if you want to offer $10 then have the correct money in your hand for them to see. Seeing the money will often sway them to take your offer. Be fair with the vendor but don’t forget that you may also get the exact same thing in the next isle even cheaper.
So good luck, have fun and happy bargain hunting!
