When identifying what a company's biggest asset is, its employees are always mentioned. It can easily be deduced that the ones essentially running the company are its employees. It is therefore a big concern for all companies, whether it?s an IT company, manufacturing company, construction company and so forth to keep its employees safe and most of all healthy through good workplace health practices.

There is more to just having healthier employees when a workplace is safe and conscious of their health. More work is accomplished faster by employees that are healthy and are assured of a safe working environment. Common workplace health practices will be discussed in this article which will give companies an idea how to execute them for their employees' benefit.

Employees should be checked if they have possible mental health problems or psychological issues that may affect workplace health. Experiencing stress or feeling burnt out can result to an employee having psychological issues, mental health problems also arises when they are being harassed or experiencing violence in the workplace. An employee's performance can be affected by any of the abovementioned scenarios, that is why it is important that they are immediately tackled.

A person experiencing excessive stress may not be healthy anymore, not only physically, but emotionally as well. It is important that a company keeps an eye on the stress level of each employee, most especially during times that business is not so good, since this is when budgets are cut and mass layoffs are apparent. Common signs that workplace health is deteriorating because of stress are fatigue, losing interest to work, constant headaches, social withdrawals, trouble concentrating and employees are becoming irritable or depressed.

Having a good workplace health program will combat stress and give employees the relief from stress that they greatly need. Having activities outside the workplace, may it be company sponsored, such as a teambuilding, or not, such as having a drink in a local bar, may help to take out some stress from the employees. The important thing to remember is that the employees should feel that they have an opportunity to let loose with their co-workers outside their workplace.

Two common causes of psychological problems that are overlooked in a working environment are harassment in the form of verbal and emotional abuse. Harassments that are not easily seen but are present in the workplace are usually the ones that have a lingering effect with employees. Zero-tolerance on any kind of harassment should be included in a good workplace health policy, as these harassments result to employees that are less confident and low self-esteem.

Another common factor to take into consideration in workplace health is the idea of burnout employees. Burnout employees are usually those who are physically and emotionally drained because of long term stress. Situations such as being burnout can be avoided with the help of the companies.

Employees who give up their personal and quality time to interact with family and friends usually are the ones to get burnout with over working. An employee starts feeling depressed and his or her behavior changes that his or her co-workers might observe. Some studies prove that having a support group amongst employees can be helpful, that is why this will be better to include in the company's workplace health program.

Eradicating any form of harassment, emotional, physical, verbal or sexual harassment, can be done by just making sure that there is zero-tolerance to any of these. A fun and social workplace can help solve problems of excessive stress and burnt out employees. Company can even make more fortune just by simply implementing these measures as employee efficiency is increased, employees are giving more interest in their jobs, there are lower turnover rates and higher workplace health cost savings.
